Mary's Fight for Religious Freedom in Iran

Updated: Feb 27, 2020

"I hope that one day all Christians in Iran will have a place to praise God without security guards." Mary Fatemeh Mohammadi stated shortly before her arrest on Sunday January 12th 2020 at Azadi Square.

To shed light on the protests in Iran on the day the Ukrainian airplane was shot down by the Iranian officials that lied to the public for days until they confessed. (Click to See Video) Hundreds came out to protest against the corrupt government that has oppressed the will of the people. Iran has been at war with the United States for decades since I can remember in the late 70's when the Islamic Revolution overthrown the Shah. (Click to see Video) They had waged wars all over the world to fight western idealism. Christians have been the target of all their hate crimes especially in Iran. (Click to see Video)

Fatemeh Mohammadi, a Persian speaking Christian, currently a prisoner and human rights activist in Iran. In her words: (Click to see Video)"

"I am Fatemeh Mohammadi, a Persian-speaking Christian, living in Iran. According to Articles 18 and 19 of the Global Declaration of Human Rights, which emphasises the freedom of opinion and expression. The Islamic Republic of Iran is obligated to uphold these articles for freedom of expression.

We, Persian-speaking Christians, want to have the Persian-speaking Churches in all provinces, because of the high number of Christians in Iran. Violations of the rights of individuals and groups are considered a form of violence and discrimination against them. So we ,the Persian-speaking Christians, request all people in every country and every ideology to support us through the signing of the "KHMA" campaign and create the hashtag: #the_Church_is_the_right_of_Christians and #stop_the_violence_against_Christians. "

Update on Mary Fatemeh Mohammad 2/5/2020

Randy Noble an immense advocate for Iranian rights has reported that a friend of the family has herd word of where Mary is being held. She is at (Click to read article) Qarchak Prison for women. Without any details of how long she will have to endure the harsh environment that many of these women face. We ask you to keep her in your prayers.

Excerpt from Article 18

"Mary is a rare example of a Christian activist still living in Iran and had already spent six months in prison as a result of her Christian activity, for which she was convicted of “action against national security” and “propaganda against the system”.

In July last year Mary faced fresh criminal charges relating to her “improper” wearing of hijab. The charges, which were eventually quashed, were brought against her after she initially went to police to complain of an assault.

Then in December, Mary was kicked out of her Tehran university, without explanation, on the eve of her English-language exams.

She told Article18 she believed she had been expelled as a result of her prior conviction and human rights activism.

Mary said she believes not enough is known about the situation of Christians in Iran – particularly converts – compared to the significant amount of publicity and advocacy work relating to other rights issues.

Earlier this week fellow Christian activists Dabrina Bet-Tamraz, Maryam Rostampour and Marziyeh Amirizadeh also called for more noise to be made about the situation of Christians in Iran.

Dabrina specifically highlighted Mary’s case, saying: “She’s a young girl and nobody has any idea where she is right now. She’s been taken away for over three weeks now. We’ve called on every organisation to raise awareness and ask the [Iranian] government… [to] make them accountable, responsible for what they’ve done.”

Dabrina said she feared that if not enough noise was made about the situation of people like Fatemeh, someone like her may “go missing, and die, and nobody will ever talk about it”.
